BABIN'S CABINETS

the process


 THE PROCESS: ENTRY DOORS

DOORS ARE MADE OF 1 3/4" SOLID SPANISH CEADER, 4" wood screws, water proof glue and wood doweled.  We seal the bottom of our doors and jambs to prevent water absorption.  We use a continuous threshold so door and jambs are on threshold and not on slabs. Most doors are constructed with jamb on slab and threshold under doors only.  Spanish cedar is the wood of our choice because of its versatility and characteristic to remain stable and straight and it can be stained or painted. Other woods are available on request.



THE PROCESS: CABINET CONSTRUCTION

WHEN A CUSTOMER GETS THEIR FINAL BLUE PRINTS they can bring them in and we go through each room with cabinets and discuss options, wood, door styles. 

We scale the footage and give an estimate from the plans.  This takes about 2-3 days. 

The estimate is itemized by each room.  If there is something that they want to eliminate from the estimate they can usually figure the total amount of the estimate by subtracting that item.  

When construction of the house gets to the installation of sheet rock or wall stage that is when we go out and get actual measurements on site. 

When we get to their job we will contact them and go over options again and will need appliance measurements before construction starts.  Communication is important at this stage to make sure we are on the same page with what the customer wants. 

All changes are to be made at this stage & before construction starts.  After construction begins any changes will be additionally charged.

SINCE EACH PROJECT IS AS UNIQUE AS THE HOME OF THE OWNER, so is the process of construction. Offered below is a standard we follow in our construction process to show you the quality of the work we do.

 

Base Cabinets
  • We put 1 1/2" runners under the base cabinets w/ 5/8" plywood bottoms.
  • 3/4" side panels
  • solid wood frames 
  • 5/8" plywood shelves
  • all our cabinets have 1/4"” backs
  • 3" plywood toe space


Top Cabinets
  • 5/8" plywood base
  • 3/4" side panels
  • 5/8" plywood shelves
  • 5/8" top plywood
  • solid wood frames
  • 4 1/2" crown molding


Doors
  • Our doors are made with stile and rail construction with center panels.


Drawers
  • Our drawers are made with 5/8" ply sides and 1/4" ply bottoms and solid wood fronts.


Options
  • We have a lot of options that can be added to cabinets pot drawers, garbage pullouts, spice racks, wine rack, wine glass holders, lazy susans, pullout shelves, custom bell shaped hoods, corner bi-fold doors, tip out trays, refrigerator shells, plate racks.
